DON M. SOWERSDon Sowers

Don Sowers was born in Oak Park, Illinois and was raised in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1978, attended DePauw University and graduated from Texas Christian University (T.C.U.) with a degree in Bachelor of Business Administration in 1982. After college, Mr. Sowers returned to Chicago, graduated from The John Marshall Law School and was licensed to practice law in 1986.

Mr. Sowers began his career defending physicians, hospital and drug companies; ultimately becoming a partner at one of Chicago’s most respected defense firms in 1994. In 1998, Mr. Sowers determined that his compassion for clients and his courtroom skills would be better suited counseling and representing individuals and families damaged by personal injuries. Since 1998, Don has specialized in representing clients in catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases with a concentration in medical malpractice cases.

Mr. Sowers has obtained numerous significant settlements on behalf of plaintiffs on their families in Cook, Lake, McHenry, Will, Grundy and Winnebago Counties, including obtaining a 9 million dollar settlement on behalf of a child who suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of medical negligence at the time of child birth and the failure to perform a cesarean section. He has also obtained numerous verdicts at trial in excess of 1 million dollars in Cook and DeKalb Counties, including the first medical malpractice verdict on behalf of a plaintiff in over five years in DeKalb County.

During several of his recent medical malpractice trials, despite the defendants’ insurance company refusal to offer any amount of money to settle the case prior to trial, Mr. Sowers was able to obtain verdicts in excess of one million dollars. Several other cases were settled by the defendant physicians after trial had started.

Mr. Sowers believes that integrity compassion and justice are of utmost importance and is a tenacious advocate for Motherway & Napleton’s clients. He is a member of the American Association for Justice and the AAJ’s Birth Trauma Litigation Group, The Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association. He is also a member of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Federal Trial Bar.
